Fashion On Film Under the Stars in NYC - AUGUST 2012 Edition
Summer time in New York City is here! So you know what that means! Free! Movies! Of course there are tons of free movies to be watched in many of NYC’s super sweet parks but I hand picked these movies below as the most fashionable/awesome of the lot for the entire month of August! If you want to see the full list go here, otherwise ENJOY! (p.s. Don’t forget to bring snacks,a blanket and a friend or three!)
8/8/2012 Summer on the Hudson: Movies Under the Stars: ‘Pee Wee’s Big Adventure’
Location: Pier I (in Riverside Park South), Manhattan 8:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m.
Summary: Eccentric man-child Pee-Wee Herman embarks on the big adventure of his life across the US mainland, as he sets out to find his beloved bike, when it is stolen in broad daylight.
Why I think you should see it: Pee-Wee may be a man child but he is always sharply dressed! Get into his look and tell me Jay-Z did not wear the exact same thing at the 2012 BET Awards. Plus this movie is directed by Tim Burton ( he made Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Alice in Wonderland ect) so if you’ve loved any of his previous films you will like this
8/13/2012 HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival: All About Eve
Location: Bryant Park, Manhattan 5:00 p.m.
Summary: An ingenue insinuates herself in to the company of an established but aging stage actress and her circle of theater friends.
Why I think you should see it: Think Single White Female with much more glamorous clothes and no murderous intent. Eve is a young usurper trying to come up on the coat tails of Bette Davis’ character by obsessing over her until the time is right to steal the spot light. This story line plays out all the time in the fashion industry where younger is often considered better. It’s so good you almost don’t know who to root for. Take note on the hairstyles you’re gonna wanna youtube up some tutorials on them after!
8/15/2012 Summer on the Hudson: Movies Under the Stars: Triplets of Bellville
Location: Pier I (in Riverside Park South), Manhattan 8:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.
Summary: When her grandson is kidnapped during the Tour de France, Madame Souza and her beloved pooch Bruno team up with the Belleville Sisters—an aged song-and-dance team from the days of Fred Astaire—to rescue him.
Why I think you should see it: First off this movie is showing on my birthday so I think you should go in honor or me <3 Jk (kinda) Since this is an animation and a eerily drawn one at that the clothes are not exactly the highlight of this film. The highlight is that is so creepy and sweet all at the same time! I am also a sucker for all things french, I don’t mind reading subtitles and I love hearing french spoken and sung throughout the film. Think of this movie as a good excuse to stop by Lauderee for fine french pastries to eat during the showing.
